Holmes Wilson, Fight for the Future

Geoffrey is the ultimate generalist and an extremely effective fundraiser. At Mozilla, I saw him go beyond fundraising and reposition the organization as a powerful public policy voice that engaged users around its product by sharing a vision of something larger than *any* product: the open Internet.

Geoffrey in his role at Mozilla was a co-creator of the rapid response stopwatching.us campaign that got 500,000 people to take action for privacy after the Snowden revelations. There’s no way we would have gotten half a million people to take action without his work to get Mozilla “all in”.

On net neutrality, his early support for the “Team Internet vs. Team Cable” framing solidified that as the movement’s unified message, ultimately winning us the messaging battle. Mozilla’s support for the “Internet Slowdown Day” protests was also crucial, and I think it’s fair to call that involvement (and the vast majority of Mozilla’s other work on net neutrality) was a direct result of Geoff’s work to strengthen Mozilla’s advocacy role.
